“GameON: Overcome youth uNemployment through digital entrepreneurship” Project: the importance of getting to know the new figure of the Digital Entrepreneur

As we have seen in previous articles, the Covid 19 pandemic has increased unemployment globally and reduced career prospects, especially for young people.

The entrepreneurship sector has also been negatively affected by the pandemic: it needs to be strengthened, especially by providing modern and innovative training to future and potential entrepreneurs.

In the era of the Internet and digital technologies and transformation, one of the fastest-growing sectors is digital business, which requires a new figure: the digital entrepreneur, focused on the development of entrepreneurship linked to digital.

A digital entrepreneur is a person who has decided to use the resources the web makes available, organizing them according to a business model, to create his or her own online business.

Digital entrepreneurs take advantage of the online world’s typical features and its systems (from social networks to management software, from content creation systems to paid promotion systems) to gain a huge competitive advantage over the more traditional types of offline entrepreneurs.

In this context, young people, born in a digital environment, have a competitive advantage: they are familiar with the Internet, social media, etc., and can move easily in the online sphere.

Starting from this framework, the Erasmus Plus Project “GameON: Overcome youth uNemployment through digital entrepreneurship” intends to help young people overcome unemployment by providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to become entrepreneurs in the digital sector, using an innovative and original teaching approach.

In fact, the project will promote entrepreneurship and digital business through a Simulation Game, fully interactive, that will offer four different scenarios with three levels of complexity each.

The four scenarios will be: Entrepreneurial Mindset; Innovation and Entrepreneurship core; Business Models, Business Canvas, Business Model You for Digital Entrepreneurs; and Digital Marketing.

Each scenario will focus on deepening a specific knowledge and extending a particular skill by requiring users to accomplish various tasks and find definitions and theoretical contents hidden directly in the game.

The Simulation Game will also help to develop skills such as complex problem solving, critical thinking, people management and coordination with others.

This innovative game-based teaching approach will allow users to learn while having fun, making potentially difficult and in some cases tricky topics, such as entrepreneurship and digital business, more engaging and exciting.
